Writing the PhD thesis is a very messy undertaking. It probably shouldn’t be; but, though it remains under my control, the process is proving to be productive in many ways, not simply the straight-down-the-line thesis-writing form of productivity that is the bread and butter of the PhD. Often the bits and pieces of critical thought that don’t suit the thesis or its appendices can be shuffled into various sidelines – publication, conference papers, seminars – but equally often those bits and pieces will be scribbled on a convenient scrap of paper, and then unceremoniously forgotten, lost or binned.

I’d prefer not to forget, lose or bin those fragments; I’d rather recycle them. Hence, this blog. Let the games begin.
